Trust For Nature >> How can you help?
YES! I would like to support Trust for Nature’s Woodlands Protection Appeal

Trust for Nature is a leading not-for-profit private land conservation organisation, protecting native bushland throughout Victoria. Its success is based on the development of innovative methods to permanently protect native habitat on private land such as conservation covenants and so far has protected more than 80,000 hectares of native vegetation in Victoria.

By making a tax deductible donation to our Woodlands Protection End of Financial Year Appeal, you are helping to conserve one of Victoria’s rarest habitats forever. Your support will make a lasting difference!

Grassy woodlands once covered nearly one third of Victoria. Now more than 90% of these woodlands have been lost, along with many of the animals and plants which once lived there.

Woodland birds have been particularly affected by the extensive loss of their habitat. One quarter of all woodland bird species are threatened or in decline.

For each of these threatened and declining species, Trust for Nature can help.

Trust for Nature also uses a unique Revolving Fund program to buy and protect land with endangered ecosystems. Properties are then sold again with a permanent conservation covenant in place and the proceeds go back into the revolving fund for future purchases.

The permanent protection and management of existing woodlands is the most effective way of giving our woodland birds a chance to survive. In the next ten years, Trust for Nature aims to protect an additional 50,000 hectares of grassy woodland and box-ironbark habitat to help create better landscapes for woodland birds.

With your support we can:

  • Permanently protect Buloke woodlands in the Wimmera to help save the endangered Red‑tailed Black Cockatoo.
  • Purchase and protect a woodland property near Benalla to help contribute to the conservation efforts of the Regent Honeyeater Project operating there.
  • Protect Black Box creeklines in northwest Victoria to help secure habitat for the endangered Grey‑crowned Babbler and Bush Stone-curlew.
  • Help improve the quality of habitat on the 13,000 hectares of woodland and box-ironbark habitat already protected by Trust for Nature, to provide more food and nest sites for declining species such as the Scarlet Robin and Crested Shrike-tit.
  • Restore woodland habitat on private land to provide additional habitat for declining species that need large woodland patches for their survival, such as Hooded Robin, Jacky Winter and Diamond Firetail.

Every hectare counts! Please donate to our Woodlands Protection Appeal and give Victoria’s threatened Woodland Birds a chance.
Help us to protect Victoria’s woodlands forever!

If you have been affected by the 2009 Bushfires then we understand that you may not be in a position to give at this time, and if you have already made an end of year donation to us, thank you, your support is greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Yours sincerely

Peter Moulton
Acting Executive Director
