Beautiful 8 ha of Grassy Woodland just west of Ballarat
Grassy woodlands, with a very high conservation rating. Undulating with a wide variety of vegetation. I have a comprehensive Botanist’s report which rates the habitat 7 out of 9.
The property contains intact remmants of Grassy Dry Forest, Heathy Dry Forest and Valley Grassy Forest. There is a diverse range of species present and a range of habitats with the gully lines, drier hills and the creekline at the rear of the property. There is no erosion in the gullies, which is unusual. The creekline (VGF) contains ferns and masses of lilies. Dwarf Boronia and Western Bronzehoods are two regonally signifiant species present on the covenanted property. The east side of the small gully has a very sparse groundlayer with lots of leaf litter. West side from weekender to Walshs Road has good Grassy Dry Forest and undersorey. Larger rear gully to north has Valley Grassy Forest. South facing slope beyond gully is grassy with bracken and Thatch Saw-sedge. North facing slope is Healthy Dry Forest. Owner has been removing pine seedlings. There are Coral Lichen patches near the road.
The nearest township is Buninyong which is, I believe, Victoria’s oldest inland city established prior to Ballarat. Durham Lead was one of the earlier locations where gold was found. The property is close to Mount Buninyong. See link below.
