Habitat 141
Read the latest about the Habitat 141 project. The Trust is a partner in this project, which is a large scale (18 million hectare), landscape connectivity initiative focussed along the 141st meridian longitude in western Victoria, southeast South Australia and southwest NSW. Its vision is “to work with communities to conserve, restore and connect habitats for plants and wildlife on a landscape scale from the outback to the ocean”. The Habitat 141 Alliance is comprised of organisations from Victoria, South Australia and New South Wales from government, non-government, Indigenous and natural resource management bodies, formed to collectively implement the vision for Habitat 141.
As part of the development of Habitat 141 as a major conservation project, a working group has been developing a governance structure for the organisation since July 2010. Trust for Nature has been a member of the Governance Working Group and has welcomed the opportunity to help progress the project’s vision.
From Trust for Nature’s perspective, Habitat 141 is a critical conservation initiative operating across one third of Victoria which helps address the impacts of climate change on biodiversity. We look forward to being more involved with the project in the future. For more information about the project, visit the Habitat 141 website: http://www.habitat141.org.au/
